Principal’s Message

Welcome to Aspire Antonio Maria Lugo Academy!

Dear AMLA Families and Community,

It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you to Aspire Antonio Maria Lugo Academy. Whether you are a returning family or new to our community, I want you to know this: you belong here.

At AMLA, we believe in the power of public education to transform lives. Our mission is to create a school where students feel safe, seen, and celebrated. Where they are challenged academically, supported emotionally, and uplifted as the brilliant, capable young people they are. We know that learning thrives in joyful, inclusive spaces, and we are committed to cultivating that joy every day.

As AMLA Lions, we ROAR!
We demonstrate Respect, Ownership, Acceptance, and Responsibility. These are more than words; they are the foundation of how we show up for ourselves, for one another, and our community.

We strive to create a school environment where every student, family, and staff member feels a deep sense of belonging and connection. That means we:

  1. Value Diversity: honoring each person’s identity, voice, and lived experience
  2. Spark Hope: holding a future-focused belief in what is possible for every child
  3. Create Empowering Communities: built on trust, joy, and collective care

We are proud to be part of an organization that centers student agency, anti-racism, academics, and activism. Equipping young people to think critically, lead with purpose, and make change in their communities and beyond.

Our school was honored as a 2025 California Distinguished School, a recognition of the hard work, love, and commitment of our entire community. This success is not just about achievement data; it’s a reflection of our shared belief in equity, community, and the boundless potential of every learner.

As principal, I am deeply committed to leading with empathy, integrity, and vision. I believe schools must be places of healing, growth, and connection, not just for students, but for the adults who support them. Our team is here to partner with you; to listen, grow, and work together to ensure every child receives the education they deserve.

I invite you to explore our school, attend our events, and stay connected with us throughout the year. Together, we are building something powerful: a community rooted in love, grounded in community, and powered by joy.

In service,
Dawn Barnes
Principal
